Kynance Cafe and Cottage
Luke and Victoria Donovan have been running the cafe since 1999 when the National Trust purchased the premises. When we first took over the running of Kynance things were quite different, we had no electricity, running water or any toilet facilities. Since then with help from Objective One funding, Cornwall County Council and South Of England Regional Development Agency, the National Trust have installed mains electricity and water.
They have also installed Photo voltaic solar roof tiles on both the cafe and the cottage, which generate enough electric to run the new toilet block and produce hot water for the cafe and feed energy into the National grid. Kynance Cafe is the first National Trust property to be roofed with PV tiles which generate more than five thousand kilowatt hours of electricity a year – enough to make 45,550 cups of tea.
With all the changes the National Trust have made, the running of the business is much better we recycle as much as possible and we encourage customers to do the same. We want to make sure we keep this special place as unspoilt as possible.
